About The Calm Cube Foundation

Who We Are

The Calm Cube Foundation is a Detroit-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing emotional wellness for children through preventive education, community partnerships, and hands-on wellness experiences.

We believe that emotional health is just as important as physical health and that children who learn to understand and manage their emotions early are better equipped to succeed in school, in relationships, and in life. Our programs meet children where they are, in schools, community spaces, and homes across Detroit, making emotional wellness accessible to every child regardless of background or zip code.

Our Mission

To equip children with emotional wellness tools, resources, and experiences that help them build confidence, resilience, self-awareness, and healthy coping skills.

Our Vision

A future where every child has access to safe, engaging, and preventive emotional wellness support before challenges become crises.

Our Story

The Calm Cube Foundation was founded by Clarice Cochran after witnessing firsthand the emotional challenges children in Detroit were facing challenges that often went unaddressed until they became crises. Clarice believed there had to be a better way: one rooted in prevention, creativity, and connection rather than reaction.

From that belief, The Calm Cube was born a simple but powerful concept that gives children a safe, structured way to pause, identify their feelings, and respond instead of react. What started as a single tool has grown into a full nonprofit organization bringing workshops, Calm Corners, Wellness Kits, and community programs to children and families across Detroit.

Today, The Calm Cube Foundation is committed to ensuring that every child regardless of their neighborhood, school, or home situation has access to the emotional wellness support they deserve.

Our Core Values

  • Prevention First

We believe in building emotional strength before challenges arise not just responding when they do.

  • Child-Centered

Every program, resource, and experience we create is designed with the child's voice, safety, and joy in mind.

  • Community Rooted

We are of Detroit and for Detroit. Our work is shaped by the families, schools, and neighbors we serve.

  • Accessible to All

Emotional wellness is not a privilege. We work to remove barriers so every child can access the support they need.

Founder and Executive Director

Clarice Cochran

Clarice Cochran is the Founder and Executive Director of The Calm Cube Foundation. Her work is rooted in a lifelong commitment to children, families, and community wellness and in the belief that emotional health education should reach children early, before stress and life's challenges become overwhelming.

Clarice created The Calm Cube as a preventive, creative approach to emotional wellness one that meets children with warmth, play, and practical tools they can use every day. Under her leadership, The Calm Cube Foundation has grown from a single concept into a nonprofit organization serving children across Detroit through workshops, school partnerships, Calm Corner installations, and community programs.

Clarice is passionate about building a Detroit where no child faces an emotional challenge alone.

Our Work in Action

The Calm Cube Foundation delivers emotional wellness support through four core program areas. Each one is designed to be age-appropriate, engaging, and rooted in evidence-based social-emotional learning principles.

Our programs are available to schools, community organizations, summer programs, and families across the Detroit metro area. We partner directly with educators, administrators, and community leaders to bring emotional wellness where children already are.
